“Day by day continuing with one mind in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, they were taking their meals together with gladness and sincerity of heart”
In Acts 2, we read of one of the most dynamic sermons preached in the New Testament. After Peter preached his heart out, we learn that about three thousand people repented and were baptized that day. As you continue to read through Acts, you will read of the church continuing to spread like a wild fire. The Jews even try their hardest to stomp out this new faith, but their efforts are futile. Why, because these Christians were serious about their faith. They met daily and devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship.
Not only did they take their faith seriously, but they had a support system unlike any other. We, as the Church, are supposed to encourage and build one another up. Not just in times of trials or difficulty, but all the time. That is why the early church continued to grow. They were constantly meeting with one another to grow as Christians and help their fellow brothers and sisters in Christ to grow, as well. It is not a coincidence that after we read that the Christians met daily with one another, that we learn that the Lord was adding to their number day by day those who were being saved.
We, at Decatur Highway, have started a program based on the example of the early church called 246 Groups. It gives us another chance to come together, just as they did in Acts, and grow. Each group meets to study and discuss a specific topic, pray together, eat together and fellowship with one another. Individuals are able to attend one or more groups based on their specific need or interest. We encourage everyone of every age to get involved & get to know one another.
